Automotive significance
The 815 was not a Ferrari-badged automobile. Its designation referred to an eight-cylinder engine of roughly 1.5 litres, and Touring created the two-seat bodywork. Only two examples were built. Historically, it is best understood as Enzo Ferrari’s pre-marque competition project: an important engineering bridge between his Alfa Romeo years and the first car that would officially carry the Ferrari name in 1947.
