Automotive significance

A contractual restriction prevented Ferrari from immediately using his surname on new cars, so Auto Avio Costruzioni should not be presented as the Ferrari automobile marque under another badge. The company produced machine tools and industrial equipment while Enzo Ferrari looked for a route back into competition. That distinction explains why the car that followed in 1940 was not called a Ferrari.
