Automotive significance
The 126 C2 combined Ferrari’s turbocharged V6 with a lighter, stiffer chassis using Hexcel carbon-fibre and aluminium honeycomb composite construction. Its competitiveness allowed Ferrari to win the teams’ championship despite profound disruption to its driver line-up. The result is historically significant both as Ferrari’s first Constructors’ title of the turbo era and as a reminder that sporting success in 1982 cannot be separated from the human cost of the season.
