Automotive significance
The 166 MM combined a 1,995 cc Colombo V12 with Touring’s lightweight Superleggera construction and could be specified for competition or road use. That dual-purpose character became important to Ferrari’s early business model: sporting success created demand, while private customers helped finance continued racing. The model would become closely associated with Ferrari’s international breakthrough in 1949.
