The 250 GT 2+2 Broadens Ferrari’s Road-Car Business

1960

Ferrari added the 250 GT 2+2 to its road-car range, combining the marque’s 3.0-litre V12 with genuine rear seating and a Pinin Farina body. Ferrari records it as the first four-seat model the company produced on a large scale, with 957 examples built.

Automotive significance

The 250 GT 2+2 mattered less for a single technical breakthrough than for what it represented industrially. Ferrari was moving beyond tiny runs of highly specialised two-seat GTs toward a broader, more repeatable road-car business. Period reporting described it as Ferrari’s first serious attempt at series-producing a four-seater, while retaining the Colombo-derived V12 and performance expected of Maranello. The exact timing of its first public showing is described differently across sources, so Project Apex records the Ferrari model year without assigning an exact launch date.
