Automotive significance

The 296 GTB added a new six-cylinder architecture alongside Ferrari’s V8 and V12 road-car families and paired it with rear-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid assistance. The historical wording requires care: Dino-badged road cars had used V6 engines decades earlier, so Project Apex does not claim this was the first six-cylinder automobile ever built by the wider Ferrari organisation. Its importance lies in establishing the modern Ferrari-badged V6 PHEV architecture that would later influence road and racing programmes.
