Automotive significance
The 365 GT4 BB was Ferrari’s first twelve-cylinder mid-engined road car and represented a decisive architectural shift for the marque’s flagship berlinettas. Its 4.4-litre flat-12 was technically a 180-degree V12 rather than a true boxer engine, and the engine sat above the gearbox to keep the powertrain compact. The distinction between the 1971 show car and the production car matters: Ferrari presented the concept in Turin in 1971, but customer production began two years later.
