Automotive significance
The car is almost universally known as the ‘Daytona’, but that was not its official model name. The nickname emerged in the press after Ferrari’s 1–2–3 result at Daytona in 1967. That distinction is important because it reveals how strongly racing culture shaped Ferrari’s public identity even when the factory’s formal nomenclature remained technical. The 365 GTB4 also shows that Ferrari did not immediately abandon the front-engined V12 GT formula in response to the Lamborghini Miura; instead Maranello developed that architecture to a new performance and design extreme.
