The 575M Maranello Evolves Ferrari’s Front-Engine V12 GT

2002

Ferrari launched the 575M Maranello in 2002 as a major evolution of the 550 Maranello. Its enlarged 5.75-litre V12 produced 515 CV, and buyers could choose either a conventional six-speed manual or an electro-hydraulic F1 gearbox.

Automotive significance

The 575M showed how Ferrari was applying electronically managed systems to its traditional front-engine V12 berlinetta. Beyond the larger engine, it introduced adaptive damping and made the F1-style paddle-shift transmission available in this flagship GT architecture. Contemporary reporting correctly treated it as an extensive update of the 550 rather than a clean-sheet replacement, a distinction retained in Project Apex wording.
