The 599 GTB Fiorano Advances Ferrari’s Front-Engine V12 Formula

2006

Ferrari introduced the 599 GTB Fiorano in 2006 with a 6.0-litre V12 producing 620 CV. The two-seat front-mid-engine berlinetta combined an Enzo-derived engine architecture with a new generation of Ferrari electronic and transmission technology.

Automotive significance

The 599 GTB moved the 550/575M concept into a substantially more sophisticated era. Its F1-SuperFast transmission could complete shifts in around 100 milliseconds, while magnetorheological dampers and increasingly integrated vehicle controls expanded the electronic toolkit available to the driver. Contemporary independent testing at Fiorano described the car as a major step beyond the 575M rather than a simple power increase.
