28 March 1993 — Monza

The Ferrari Challenge one-make series began at Monza on 28 March 1993 using specially prepared 348 Challenge cars. Paolo Rossi won the first Trofeo Pirelli race, while Roberto Ragazzi won the second and later became the first series champion.

Automotive significance

Ferrari Challenge created a formal bridge between road-car ownership and organised competition. The 348 Challenge remained closely related to the production car but added the safety equipment, wheels, brakes and other changes required for racing. The programme later expanded beyond Italy and Europe and became an important part of Ferrari’s customer-racing structure.
