Challenge Stradale Creates a New Road-Racing Special-Series Lineage

2003

Ferrari introduced the Challenge Stradale in 2003 as a lighter, more focused evolution of the 360 Modena. Its 3.6-litre V8 produced 425 CV, while carbon-ceramic brakes, an F1 transmission and extensive weight reduction brought technology and character from Ferrari’s customer racing programmes to the road.

Automotive significance

The Challenge Stradale established a repeatable Ferrari formula: take the regular mid-engine V8 road car and create a sharper, lighter special series with a more direct motorsport relationship. Ferrari later identified it as the beginning of a lineage that would continue through cars such as the 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale. It was road legal and race-inspired, but it was not simply a homologated 360 Challenge race car for the street.
