The F355 Rebuilds Ferrari’s Mid-Engine V8 Formula

March 1994 — Geneva Motor Show

Ferrari introduced the F355 Berlinetta in 1994 with a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing 380 CV. Its five-valve-per-cylinder cylinder heads, extensively developed aerodynamics and electronically controlled dampers represented a major step beyond the 348.

Automotive significance

Although the F355 retained elements of the 348 platform, Ferrari reworked the engine, transmission, aerodynamics and chassis behaviour in depth. The flat underbody and carefully managed airflow improved high-speed stability without relying on large external wings, while the new five-valve V8 raised specific output substantially. The model became an important expression of Montezemolo-era priorities: performance combined with greater usability and finish.
