The F430 Introduces the Manettino and E-Diff to Ferrari Road Cars

September 2004 — Paris Motor Show

Ferrari introduced the F430 in 2004 with a new 4.3-litre V8 producing 490 CV, an electronically controlled differential and the steering-wheel-mounted manettino for selecting integrated vehicle-dynamics settings.

Automotive significance

The F430 was important not simply for greater performance over the 360 Modena, but for how it changed the driver’s relationship with the car’s electronic systems. The E-Diff coordinated traction through an electronically controlled hydraulic differential, while the manettino grouped settings for stability control, damping and transmission response on the steering wheel. The interface became a defining Ferrari control concept in subsequent road cars.
