Automotive significance

The 166 MM’s Le Mans victory gave Ferrari international credibility only two years after the 125 S appeared. Chinetti carried most of the driving load, while the compact two-litre V12 and lightweight Touring body proved capable of surviving a full day at race pace. The result also strengthened Ferrari’s commercial relationship with Chinetti, who would become central to the marque’s expansion in the United States.
