Automotive significance

The Rome result gave the new Maranello constructor its first race victory with a car carrying the Ferrari name. Cortese completed 40 laps around the circuit near the Baths of Caracalla, covering 137.6 kilometres. The result helped demonstrate that the small Colombo V12 concept was not merely a prototype exercise but the basis of a viable competition programme.
