Automotive significance
Ferrari initially planned 200 examples around Group B homologation requirements, making the GTO a direct meeting point between competition regulations and an extreme road-car programme. The FIA subsequently homologated the Ferrari GTO as Group B number 273 on 2 June 1985. The intended factory competition programme did not develop into the racing campaign originally envisaged, but the car’s turbocharging, packaging and composite construction became an important technical bridge to the F40.
