Automotive significance

The separation ended the ownership structure that had begun with Fiat’s 50 percent investment in Ferrari in 1969 and later expanded to 90 percent after Enzo Ferrari’s death. Independence did not mean Ferrari became ownerless or disconnected from the Agnelli investment sphere: Exor remained a major shareholder after the spin-off, while Piero Ferrari retained his stake. The key corporate change was that Ferrari ceased to be part of the FCA group.
