Automotive significance
The agreement changed Ferrari’s industrial footing without ending Enzo Ferrari’s role or the identity of the racing operation. Ferrari had spent much of the decade searching for the scale and financial support needed to sustain both road-car development and expensive competition programmes. Unlike the failed Ford talks in 1963, the Fiat arrangement was completed. Later Ferrari corporate filings independently confirm that Fiat acquired 50 percent of Ferrari S.p.A. in 1969; that stake would increase only after Enzo Ferrari’s death in 1988. The 1969 transaction therefore closes this chapter as an ownership milestone, not a full takeover.
