Automotive significance

Ferrari’s defeat was a genuine strategic turning point rather than simply a lost race. Ford had built a heavily resourced programme around the GT40 after the failed 1963 corporate negotiations and arrived at Le Mans with depth, speed and improving reliability. The 1966 result showed that Ferrari’s endurance supremacy could be overturned by industrial scale as well as engineering. Project Apex avoids the simplified film narrative around the staged finish and focuses on the documented sporting consequence: Ferrari’s six-year winning sequence was over.
