Automotive significance

The 312 T4 was Ferrari’s response to the ground-effect era within the constraints of its wide flat-12 engine. Scheckter’s consistency and Villeneuve’s speed delivered a one-two in the final drivers’ standings and another constructors’ crown. The drivers’ title also became a historical marker: Ferrari would not win another Drivers’ Championship until Michael Schumacher in 2000.
