Schumacher had arrived as the reigning double World Champion, but Ferrari’s 1996 package was still inconsistent and unreliable. The Barcelona victory did not mean the rebuilding project was complete; it showed that the new driver-team relationship could produce race-winning performance even before the organisation around him had fully matured. Further wins followed in Belgium and Italy later that season.
