Automotive significance

Ferrari had skipped the championship’s opening round at Silverstone and entered at Monaco instead. Ascari finished second and Sommer fourth, while Villoresi retired. The result exposed the limits of the supercharged 1.5-litre 125 F1 against Alfa Romeo and accelerated Ferrari’s development of larger naturally aspirated V12 single-seaters during the 1950 season.
